Book Blurb: The Battle for the Beginning by John Macarthur

Book Ranking – 10 out of 10

Book Title: The Battle for the Beginning: Creation, Evolution and the Bible, by John MacArthur (published by Thomas Nelson Books, 2001)

For a world-renown expositor of the O.T., you might not expect this book to be on your “Must Own” list of O.T. commentaries, but once you read it, you won’t look much further for help on understanding the beginning that is recorded in the 1st book of the Bible.

Battle for BeginningThis is not a commentary on the entire Book of Genesis, as it only covers Genesis 1-3. But with those 3 chapters of explanation, you will get a 240-page commentary!

What makes this book strong is not his scientific arguments for creation but his biblical exegesis – which is typical of any MacArthur book.

On the other hand, MacArthur has a curiosity about science and the creation vs. evolution debate as you will notice in Chapters 1-8 of this book. Of particular interest is Chapters 5-7 where he gives example after example from the animal kingdom, the universe and our earth about the complexity of creation and how it screams out for a Creator and Designer.

If you are ever going to teach the creation story to your kids or study in yourself, you need to add this resource to your bookshelves.

I would like to thank Thomas Nelson Books for giving me a copy of this book to read, review and apply to my current ministry.
