The Monday feature of the Worldly Saints blog focuses on a story from the sports world – current or historic. The point is to recognize athletes who are using their sports and athletic abilities to further the kingdom of God or to show how some athletes are wasting their days by not giving God the glory.
Remember Jeremy Lin? “Linsanity” swept the nation in 2012 when this little-known point guard for the New York Knicks seemed unstoppable as he marched through defense after defense and kindled a fire week after week in Madison Square Garden.
Fast forward to two years – he is now playing (and starting) for the Houston Rockets.
What captured some of us about Lin when his story began to be told was not just his profession of faith but how he articulated his faith. My favorite line from Lin came when he said, “I play for an audience of One.” What a simplistic and provocative way of saying, “God’s glory is the bottom and only line.”
