It is Saturday, the day before Easter, and we have been surveying 50 reasons Jesus came to die from John Piper’s book The Passion of Jesus Christ. Today, we consider reasons #46 and #47.
46. To ransom people from every tribe and language and people and nation (Rev 5:9) – When the Apostle John got a glimpse into heaven and saw a song being sung, he saw people from ever tribe and language and people and nation. Christ died to save a diversity of people because one thing we all have in common is this: sin. The disease of sin is global and permeates every square inch of this planet. Jesus came to deliver everyone – no matter the race or people group.
47. To gather all His sheep from around the world (John 10:16; 11:51-52) – Before salvation comes to our hearts, we are like sheep scattered. We are wandering aimlessly through the world without any Master. And when Jesus calls the redeemed, they will follow after Him because they know His voice (John 10:3-4). Jesus died to gather His sheep from every continent and island.
