Why Jesus Died – (23) So We Might Belong to Him and (24) To Give Us Access to the Holiest Place

Well, blog-readers, we are half-way through this series from John Piper’s book The Passion of Jesus Christ: 50 Reasons Jesus Came to Die.

23. So that we might belong to Him (Acts 20:28; Rom 7:4; I Cor 6:19-20) – The better question than “Who you are?” is “Whose you are?” Too many people think they are their own, but we were bought with a price. With His own blood, Jesus purchased us for Himself. That makes us free.

24. To give us confident access to the holiest place (Heb 10:19) – The tabernacle was a temporary house of worship that symbolized divine presence. Jesus replaced it. And by His death, He now gives us access to the very throne room of God (Heb 9:11-12; 10:20). Piper writes, “Because of Christ, we may come near and feast our hearts on the fullness of the flaming beauty of God’s holiness” (pg. 67).
